Job Description:

The Automotive Technician at UPS is responsible for maintaining delivery vehicles to include the troubleshooting and maintenance/repairs various systems including hydraulic brakes, engine/transmission, electronics, and suspension. This position performs other tasks as requested.

  • Job Type: Full-Time - Permanent Position (with guaranteed wage progression)

  • Work Location: Richmond, BC (Near YVR)

  • Workdays: Monday to Friday

  • Shift duration: 5:00PM to 1:30AM


Responsibilities:

  • Repairs all UPS gas, propane and CNG vehicles

  • Shop cleanliness and organization.

  • Ensures all vehicles are maintained regularly and in a timely manner.


Qualifications and or Requirements:

  • Experience in Diesel Engines, Vehicle Electrical and Electronic Systems, Steering, Brakes and Suspensions; and maintenance of Automatic Transmissions

  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License – Required

  • Automotive Service Technician Trade Certification (Certificate of Qualification/Inter-provincial Red-Seal) - Required

  • Able to lift 70 lbs./32 kgs.

  • Must be able to work Monday - Friday (5:00PM - 1:30PM)

  • Able to work in a fast-paced warehouse environment and occasionally outdoors

  • Must possess the required hand tools required to perform the applicable job assignment.

  • Bends, stoops, squats, kneels, crouches, crawls, climbs ladders and stairs, stands, walks, and turns/pivots frequently throughout duration of workday 

  • Able to pass a Safety Road Test

The starting pay for this position is $40.44* per hour.

For union-represented postings, wage rates and ranges and benefit offerings are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions. 

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $40.44* per hour

  • Unionized role with a Defined Benefit (DB) pension plan

  • Weekly pay (paid every Friday).

  • Paid vacation: 2 weeks on start of service year, 3 weeks after 5 years of service, 4 weeks after 10 years of service, 5 weeks after 20 years of service, 6 weeks after 25 years of service

Other Incentives:

  • A steel shoes/boots allowance with a maximum payout of $250 and a tool allowance of $450, distributed in March.

Working Conditions:

  • Mainly indoors (in a warehouse or shop). Occasionally work outdoors.

  • Exposed to hot/cold and variable temperatures when working both indoors and outdoors.

  • Wear a UPS Auto Mechanic uniform and adhere to the company’s Appearance Guidelines.
